Our dreamy Irish wedding (part 2)

And now I want to tell you about my late Uncle Alex. He was my father’s kid brother, a childless graduate of Harvard who was an honest life insurance salesman in Indianapolis. He was well-read and wise. And his principal complaint about other human beings was that they so seldom noticed it when they were happy. So when we were drinking lemonade under an apple tree in the summer, say, and talking lazily about this and that, almost buzzing like honeybees, Uncle Alex would suddenly interrupt the agreeable blather to exclaim, “If this isn’t nice, I don’t know what is.”

So I do the same now, and so do my kids and grandkids. And I urge you to please notice when you are happy, and exclaim or murmur or think at some point, “If this isn’t nice, I don’t know what is.”

– Kurt Vonnegut

OUR ENGAGEMENT + WHY WE CHOSE IRELAND + THE COURTHOUSE WEDDING + PART 1

Big thanks to Susan B. for being my strong arm, in Ireland, in the months leading up to our wedding (I really couldn’t have done it without you, lady), to the Police Service of Northern Ireland for surprising us with a celebratory cruise around the island (my hair will never be the same), and to our friends and family, who traveled great lengths to celebrate Thom finally making an honest woman out of me. We love you, we love you, we love you.

Ohhhhh dang, these are so good! You two look so happy and that castle spot! Totally amazing. I’m also really into the photos of your cake, even though we saw those earlier (I printed that recipe so hopefully that happens soon! haha). ANYWAYS. mega mega congrats!!

oh! and I listened to the podcast. the penises were hilarious and most of my girlfriends think so, but my boyfriend definitely and totally does NOT get it hahaha.

and sorry for thinking of babies! but tunics + life changing… somehow the hint sounded that way. funny especially since I tend to fall in the “babies are cute, but maybe when we get there we should adopt instead” camp. your hosts post totally resonated.

but that saying, I am SO excited to see your new food project when you launch it!! sounds exciting and I am looking forward to when you launch it and we can all know more! xo

Everything about this is so beautiful. I’m in the process of planning an out of town, very rural wedding (not Ireland out of town, but you know), and the logistical difficulties have been stressing me like whoa lately. These pictures show how worth it it is to get married in a place that means something to both of you – thanks for the reminder ;) Congrats!

How incredibly and amazingly beautiful! I love your opening quote. In my family we have a saying, “gratitude attack!” It is said when one of us is filled with joy and gratitude for that moment. It looks like you all would have been saying that non-stop! “If this isn’t nice, I don’t know what is.” Amen!

I’ve seen so many wedding pictures (I worked editing wedding videos and photographs long ago) and these are, by far, the most beautiful, naturally romantic and dreamy pictures I’ve ever seen.
I could stare at these pictures for hours…and they even made me feel like I wanna get married! lol

I am just now catching up on your wedding happenings, Ashlae, and I have tears in my eyes looking through these photos! I can feel the love that you and Thom share, and Alison captured every moment so beautifully. I’m so happy for the two of you, and I’m so happy that Thom is feeling much better at the moment. I will have to hit you up with some questions about getting married abroad, for that is what Steve and I wish to do this upcoming year. I’m taking a deep and almost stressful sigh just thinking about it. I love your dress, as you know, and I love how you completely made this magical moment YOUR OWN. God love ya for doing that in every area of your life! Big hugs and congratulations!! XOXO!
